How to Unlock All Zombie Maps on Black Ops 3

Zombies

Call of Duty: Black Ops III brings back Zombies in the form of the normal zombies maps, the over-the-head Dead Ops Arcade 2, and a campaign-zombies mixture called Nightmares.

Maps

  • Shadows of Evil: Take to the streets of Morg City to combat the undead. Embrace the curse to uncover its mysteries. This map is available with all version of Black Ops III.
  • The Giant: Re-awaken The Giant. Return to the secret facility where it all began, and strike at the heart of the zombie scourge. This map is only available in Collector's Editions of Black Ops III.
  • Der Eisendrache: Bound together by a fragile alliance, our heroes pursue the scattered remnants of Group 935 to their mountain top fortress in the Australian Alps... This map is available in the Awakening DLC pack.

The Basics

Are you new to Call of Duty Zombies? This guide should help you get off on the right severed foot. Additionally, there are new features to Black Ops III's Zombies mode, such as GobbleGum and Weapon Kits.

One player and up to three other friends fight hordes of zombies on each map. There is no set wave to finish a Zombies map. All you need to do is kill zombies until everyone dies.

The number of zombies will increase each round. The amount of players that are in the game will also affect the amount of zombies or any other creatures that may appear.

Every Zombies game starts each player off with 500 points and a Handgun. At the start of every game it is recommended that you knife the zombies. Zombies in the first round will die with a single melee attack. Ammo can be conserved, and you can get a large amount of points to start saving for barricades and more expensive weapons.

Downs

If a player is hit two to three times by a Zombie or any other creature, five from a zombie after drinking Jugger-Nog, they will be knocked down. When down the player will lose any perk they had purchased. The player will drop down to a sitting pose with a pistol or any other handgun currently in the player's loadout. Downed players can be revived by teammates within 30 seconds. If a player dies, he will be out of the game until the next round begins. When the player comes back to life, he will only have the starting handgun again. No former weapons or perks. However, if the player is revived instead of dying, he will have the same weapons before he was downed, but all Perks will be lost.

Points

Players are awarded points for shooting and killing zombies and any other creatures. Even more points can be earned if a creature is killed in certain ways or with certain weapons.

  • Each bullet that hits a creature will award the shooter with 10 Points.
  • Killing any creature with a regular weapon will award the shooter with 60 Points.
  • Killing any creature with a shotgun, explosive, or upgrade weapon (a.k.a. Wonder Weapon) will award the player with 50 Points.
  • Killing a creature by shooting them in the head will award the shooter with 100 Points.
  • Killing a creature by stabbing them with a melee attack will award the player with 130 Points.

Use the points to open doors or clear debris to progress further through the maps. Points are also used to buy weapons off walls, buy weapons from the Mystery Box, activate traps, upgrade your weapons through the Pack-A-Punch Machine, and buy Perks from the Perk-A-Cola Machines. Read more about each below.

Experience Points

Black Ops III's Zombies Mode now has its own leveling system. Unfortunately, the points you earn in a zombies game isn't the same as the experience points you need to level up and unlock GobbleGum and Weapon Kits. While it is true that you get some points from the zombies you kill, you also get points from the actions below.

Action XP Description
Survive 50+ Survive a round of Zombies. Each round is multiplied by 50 XP. If you survive round 20, you will earn 1000 XP.
Open Door 250 Open a door around the map.
Revive 250 Revive a downed teammate.
Challenges 500
1000
2500
The most XP is earned by completing challenges, which can be found after pressing pause at the main menu. There are three tiers to most challenges. Completing tier one will give you 500 points. Completing tier two will give you 1000 points. Completing tier three will give you 2500 points.
Margwa Kill 250 Kill a Margwa in Shadows of Evil.
Apocalypse Ascendant 500 Active the Pack-A-Punch in Shadows of Evil.

Prestige Mode

Prestige Mode allows players to completely reset their ranks and unlocks so they can go through the leveling up experience again in Zombies. The rank icons will be replaced with a new Prestige icon each time a player goes through Prestige Mode.

This mode will be unlocked after earning enough experience points after Level 35 in Zombies. Press the Options/Start button at the main menus, head over to Barracks in one of the two modes and choose Prestige Mode.

You will keel all progress towards weapon cosmetics (camo and paint). In exchange, you will have access to prestige awards. All weapon attachments, optics, and GobbleGum will be re-locked, but Mega GobbleGum will remain unlocked.

Permanent Unlocks Permanently unlock any item that requires level progression.
Fresh Start Completely reset all progress and start from Level 1 as though you never played in Public Match.

Barriers and Doors

As mentioned earlier, players can buy doors or clear debris using the points from killing zombies. Opening doors and clearing debris is necessary to reach other areas of the map where various weapons and perks are located.

Additionally there are barriers on maps that keep zombies on the outside of the map. The zombies will take down these barriers by ripping each board off before climbing through. Players are awarded 10 points for each plank (six planks per barrier) they rebuild. However, there is a limit to the number of points awarded to a player for rebuilding barriers within a single wave.

Crawlers and Free Time

Survival is definitely tough if zombies are constantly interrupting you before you can buy Perk-A-Colas or upgrade a weapon at the Pack-A-Punch Machine. This is where "crawlers" come in. Crawlers is a term invented by the Call of Duty Zombies community and given to zombies whose legs have been blown off. Use an explosive weapon or piece of equipment to blow off the legs of a zombie, creating a crawler. Most crawlers move much slower than regular zombies. With one or two slow crawlers left on the map, players will have enough time to spend their points on the necessities. Make note: Sometimes a crawler might die completely on its own. If this happens, a new zombie might spawn somewhere on the map. Other times the round ends right there.

Note: In Black Ops III, crawlers will die and respawn almost immediately if another player is not watching them closely. Crawlers are nearly useless on solo.

Run A Train

A common tactic in Zombies games is to have a group of zombies following one player. The player will run around an area on the map to compact them together or form a sort of train. When ready to continue, the player can turn around and shoot all of them in their heads. The head is the most vulnerable spot, and firing in a crowd will harm more with less ammo.

Power Ups

Power Ups are magical rewards that randomly appear after killing zombies or other creatures. These Power Ups are golden and give off a green glow. Touch the Power Up to activate it for the entire team. A Power Up will disappear after a short time if not collected, flashing at a faster rate before vanishing. If a player uses an EMP Grenade any where in the vicinity of a Power Up, it will also vanish.

In the past, some Power Ups were exclusive to select Zombies maps. This might be the case in future maps. The Power Ups and their descriptions are listed below.

Double Points Earn double the points for 30 seconds.
Insta-Kill Kill zombies with a single bullet or melee attack for 30 seconds. Melee attacks give more points, so it's best to knife zombies during Insta-Kill.
Max Ammo Completely fills the stockpile ammunition of all players. It's best to reload before grabbing a Max Ammo.
Nuke Kills all the zombies currently on the map. This might or might not end the round. All players will be awarded 400 points. Only grab this if your team is in trouble. 400 points is only equivalent to killing four zombies with headshots.
Carpenter Rebuilds all the barriers on the map. All players will be awarded 200 points.
Fire Sale The Mystery Box will be available at all Mystery Box spawn locations for 30 seconds, and will cost 10 points for each use.

Weapons and Kits

advertisement

Weapons can be purchased off of walls at the chalk outlines. Stand next to them to see the amount of points needed to purchase the weapon. After purchasing a weapon, additional ammo can be bought from the same spot for half the price of the weapon.

In Black Ops III, players can unlock weapons and customize them at the Weapon Kits option at the Zombies menu. Customized weapons will appear on Zombies maps when purchased from the wall or Mystery Box. Up to five attachments and one optic can be used per primary weapon. Secondary weapons can use up to two attachments and one optic.

Before a weapon attachment can be used, it must be unlocked by reaching a weapon level. Weapon levels are earned by using that weapon in the Zombies mode after it has been unlocked.

Mystery Box

The Mystery Box -- known by some as the Magic Box, Random Weapon Box, ? Box, Toy Box, Teddy Bear Box, etc -- is often a long rectangular wooden box with question marks on it. You can buy a random weapon for 950 Points from this box. Some special weapons can ONLY be found in the Mystery Box.

advertisement

This Box will move from one spot to another after being used a random number of times, and often cannot be found at the same spot at the beginning of the game. After buying a few weapons from the Mystery Box, a Teddy Bear will pop out instead of a weapon. The box will refund your points and move to a different location. Look into the sky for a blue light to locate the Mystery Box's location. You can also find a Mystery Box's spawn points by locating a teddy bear with either rubble or boxes underneath.

Pack-A-Punch Machine

The Pack-A-Punch Machine is a special machine found on all Zombies maps. Once you have access to it, you can upgrade any one of your weapons to a more powerful version for 5000 Points. Remove it quickly after upgrading or it will get sucked back into the machine and lost forever.

Additionally, upgraded ammo can be purchased off the original weapon wall buy spot for 4500 Points, but only if the weapon was originally purchased off the wall.

Once a weapon is upgraded, players can Re-Pack a weapon for 2500 points. This will add an alternate ammo type to the weapon. The ammo will not work 100% of the time. Known ammo types include:

Blast Furnace Explodes a zombie, damaging nearby zombies.
Dead Wire Electrocutes a zombie and chains the electricity to nearby zombies.
Fire Works Drops a small gun that fires and spins 360 degrees for a few seconds.
Thunder Wall Pushes zombies away with a blast of air.
Turned Makes a zombie fight other zombies for you.

Perk-A-Colas

Perk-A-Colas are drinkable Perks in Zombies. To gain these perks players must purchase the drink from a specific vending machine. Sometimes the machines have specific locations, and sometimes the machines switch their spots from game to game. Furthermore, some maps require power to be turned on before Perk-A-Colas can be purchased.

Once a Perk-A-Cola is bought, it will remain active until you are downed. Only four Perks can be purchased at a time.

Machine Price Description
Quick Revive 500 (Solo)
1500 (Multiplayer)
On solo, Quick Revive is used to revive a player when downed. While being revived, the player will be given two upgraded handguns. Quick Revive can only be used three times when playing alone.
If playing with at least one other player, Quick Revive is used to revive a downed teammate quicker than usual.
Jugger-Nog 2500 This Perk multiplies a player's health by three, allowing players to go down after six hits instead of two.
Speed Cola 3000 This Perk increases reload speed.
Double Tap Root Beer 2000 This Perk increases the fire rate of the player's weapons.
Stamin-Up 2000 This Perk allows players to run for longer periods of time.
Deadshot Daiquiri 1500 This Perk improves weapon hip-fire accuracy and will auto aim towards a zombies head when aiming down the sights.
Mule Kick 4000 This Perk allows players to carry three weapons instead of two. If downed, the third weapon that was obtained will be lost along with the perk.
Widow's Wine 4000 This Perk replaces grenades with two Widow's Wine grenades. This is a sticky grenade that wraps nearby zombies in spider webs before exploding. A spider power up will drop that replenishes grenades, or the grenades will replenish after each round.

Additionally, melee attacks to the player will cause a small explosion that will wrap the attacker in webs. Damage will still be taken from the attack.

Gobblegum

GobbleGum is a new perk system available in Call of Duty: Black Ops III's Zombies mode. Each GobbleGum will give a player a special ability, such as becoming invisible to zombies for a set amount of time. These must be purchased from GobbleGum Machines around Zombies maps for 500 points. Only select machines will have GobbleGum inside of them, and can only be used once per round. After using a machine enough times, it will become empty and a previously empty machine somewhere on the map will become filled.

advertisement

Five GobbleGum types are available from the beginning, but the others must be unlocked by leveling up in Zombies mode. All will be available if playing Zombies locally. Only five types of GobbleGum can be selected in a GobbleGum Pack at the Zombies menu before a game. One of the five in each pack will be randomly selected when purchased at a machine during a game.

In addition to Classic GobbleGum, Mega GobbleGum can be created at Dr. Monty's Factory using Liquid Divinium. Find Liquid Divinium at doors, Wall Buys, and Power Up Machines, then use them at the Dr. Monty's Factory menu at the Zombies menu. Using one vat will create a Mega GobbleGum. Two vats increase the chance of finding a rare Mega GobbleGum. Three vats gives the best chance of finding a rare Mega GobbleGum.
